For me, wearing a bow tie is not an attempt to assimilate, but a covering teacher's costume, a survival tactic against the rude treatment of students and colleagues whose intolerance allows them to easily dismiss the Latino as a credible classroom professional .

Since I started using bow ties in 2011, an interesting trend developed. My student evaluations increased significantly towards the highest percentile.
